Moxibustion is one of the five mainstream treatments of traditional Chinese medicine. The only treatment with comprehensive physical and pharmacological effects is the most effective way to supplement Yang. As the saying goes: “Where the family burns three years of Ai (wormwood), the doctor is excused”. Moxibustion existed in China for thousands of years. Numerous clinical practices have confirmed the magic of moxibustion therapy. In the “Yellow Emperor’s Canon” there is a record about moxibustion treatment for diseases. Ai(wormwood), is an herb that is warm and aromatic, and has the effect of dispelling cold, relieving pain, warming the body and preventing bleeding. Using the ignited moxa to stimulate the acupuncture points on the body surface, the heat of the burning wormwood and the medicinal properties of the leaves of wormwood, when conducted by the meridians, warms the blood to help prevent and treat diseases. It can be widely used to treat blood stasis and meridian blockage that often cause muscle and joint pain, dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea, stomach cramps, abdominal pain and other diseases; as well as replenish the Qi to treat enuresis, rectal prolapse, uterine bleeding, diarrhea and other diseases. At the same time, moxibustion also has the role of disease prevention and health care, can stimulate the body’s Qi and enhance its ability to resist disease. “Bian Shu Xin Shu” contains: “When a person is sick, he can perform moxibustion on Guan Yuan, Qi Hai, Ming Men, Zhong Zhong. Although he is not given a long life, he at the very least score a hundred years of life.” Moxibustion therapy was included in “China’s Intangible Cultural Heritage” project in 2010.
